2014 AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic – Missouri vs Oklahoma State

What. A. Night. The 2014 AT&T Cotton Bowl did not disappoint. I had such a great time shooting with my friends Ryan, Sarah, Alyssa, Greg and Amy. It was a perfect way to end a remarkable season. It’s really been a blessing to be able to tag along for the ride. So here’s probably my last set of Football images for a while. I hope you all enjoy. Thanks for taking a look!

Cotton Bowl Classic Media Day

The Mizzou Tigers have arrived in Dallas and today was the official Cotton Bowl Classic Media Day complete with team photos, interviews, and green screen pre game introduction shoots. It was a fun time and I found out that back up QB Trent Hosick has some pipes. He sang an entire song for us. Can’t wait till game time on Friday. Thanks for taking a look!

SEC Championship, Basketball, WBB

What a week. The trip to Atlanta was an eventful one. It took 14 hours to drive from Columbia to Downtown ATL due a snow storm in the middle of Kentucky. However, shooting the game was an incredible experience. The Georgia Dome was awesome and the game itself couldn’t have been more exciting. Back and forth scoring, close calls, big plays and an overflow of different emotions. Obviously, I would have been a lot happier if Mizzou had won. Instead of blogging right now, I would have been booking my flight to California. Instead, Missouri Football has landed in the Cotton Bowl vs Oklahoma State on January 3rd. Back to Dallas I go. I’ve never shot in Jerry World so I’m really looking forward to being home for the holidays and getting that opportunity. Should be another exciting game to finish off an incredibly fun season. The Mizzou Basketball team is undefeated and just broke into the AP Top 25 rankings with a win over #18 UCLA on Saturday. Also, the Women’s Basketball team broke all sorts of records on Sunday with a 126-55 routing of Bradley. Here are some of my photos from the last week. Thanks for taking a look.

Good Time To Be A Tiger

It’s a great time to be a Mizzou Tiger. Last week, the Volleyball team won Missouri’s first ever SEC Championship and completed the SEC’s first ever undefeated season. The football team is playing at a level i’ve never seen before and it’s a ton of fun to watch from the sidelines. Heading to Atlanta on Saturday for the SEC Championship vs Auburn with a National Championship birth potentially on the line. Rewind to August, and I would have never thought I would say that. Also, I can officially say that I’ve rushed Faurot Field twice since I have been a student. Once as a fan, once as a photographer. Both equally gratifying in their own ways. Anyways, here are few images from the last couple of weeks. Thanks for taking a look.

Football, Throwback Basketball

Mizzou Football lost to South Carolina in dramatic double overtime fashion after beating Florida a couple of weeks ago. This week, the Tigers bounced back and routed the Tennessee Vols 31-3 at Faurot Field. Meanwhile, the Mizzou Men’s Basketball team has completed both of its two pre-season exhibition games with wins, one of which was played at the Hearnes Center as a throwback tribute to the undefeated 1993-1994 team. They sported some awesome jersey’s that I wish they could still wear during the regular season. In fact, the NCAA has since created a rule since that time that requires jersey’s to be symmetrical which means we won’t be seeing these jersey’s again anytime soon. Anyways, here are a few of my images from the last week or two. Thanks for taking a look!

Missouri Football Takes Down Florida

What a day. The Mizzou Tigers took on the Florida Gators and I got to fly around in a little plane for the first half of the game. Back up QB, Maty Mauk, threw for 295 yards in his first career start and Andrew Baggett converted five field goals to help the No. 14 Tigers defeat No. 22 Florida 36-17 and open a two-game lead in the SEC East. With James Franklin watching on the sideline in street clothes, Mauk put any doubts to rest about whether he was ready on the first play of the game with a 41-yard pass and a 20-yard toss after that for a 7 point lead just 22 seconds in. He later ran for his own touchdown to put the game away. The Tigers are 7-0. In the SEC. I never thought I’d say that, but it’s true. Here are a few of my images from the game. Thanks for taking a look. Go Tigers! MIZ!

USMNT vs Jamaica, Mizzou Swimming

It’s been a pretty crazy last couple of weeks. There’s been a lot of shooting and a little bit of travel. It was nice to get out of Columbia and shoot the USA vs Jamaica World Cup Qualifier game in Kansas City. Shout out to Sports Illustrated for hooking me up with a credential. USA won 2-0 and is headed to Brazil next summer for the World Cup. Mizzou Swimming and Diving is also now in full swing and have had two home meets at the Mizzou Aquatics Center so far.

Here are some shots from the past week or so. Thanks for taking a look!

Football, Volleyball, Tennis

It’s been a ridiculously fun weekend as far as Mizzou sports is concerned. The Football team took down Arkansas State 41-19. The Volleyball team swept South Carolina to keep their undefeated 16-0 record. The Tennis team is out practicing at 100% while their brand new facility is being built. The Soccer team has finally started SEC play. The Golf team just unveiled their amazing new facilities out at Old Hawthorne Golf Club featuring heated hitting bays and an awesome course simulator. Everyone seems to be cruising along just fine. So here are a few of my images from this weekend. Thanks for taking a look!

Football Is Back!

I’m a little late on this, but football is finally back in full swing and the Missouri Tigers are 2-0 after taking down Murray State and Toledo. The season is off to a toasty start with 90 degree temperatures for kick off of both games. I’m really looking forward to seeing SEC foes Florida, South Carolina, and Tennessee when they come to Columbia later this season. Hopefully the Tigers stay hot and the temperatures do not. Here’s a few images from the first two games. Enjoy!

SEC Track and Field Championships Day 1-2

The SEC has arrived in Columbia, MO. Hundreds of athletes from every school in the Southeastern Conference compete in this four day track and field spectacle. Many of them will be representing their respective countries and competing in Rio at the Olympic games in a few years. Here’s a few images from the first two days of competition that mainly consisted of the Men’s decathlon and Women’s Heptathlon.

A Spring Night at Taylor Stadium

It was Friday night at the ballpark. Correction. It was a beautiful, spring, cotton-ball clouded, sunset filled night at the ballpark in which the hotdogs were steaming and the children were running around chasing foul balls. The Missouri Tigers were set to take on the nationally ranked Florida Gators on one of the (in my opinion) nicest nights of the year. Mizzou ended up losing the game 8-6 in what would prove to be a back and forth baseball game, but that still didn’t take away from an atmosphere that would make any American sports fan’s heart happy.

Weekend Photos: April 5-8

Over the weekend, I had the opportunity to travel to St. Louis to shoot a couple Mizzou Tennis matches. Unfortunately, Mizzou lost both matches to SEC foes Alabama and Auburn. I also had the opportunity to shoot some of the Mizzou Men’s Golf COG Intercollegiate tournament in which the Tigers dominated the field. All in all, it was a really fun weekend and shooting outdoor sports in warm weather is always a blessing here in the Midwest. Here are a few images from the two events. Thanks for taking a look!

A Week’s Worth Of Sports

So its been a pretty busy week or two. Usually I dont put this many photos up at a time, but I thought ‘What the heck, why not?’ SO here ya go! This is what we have in the smallest nutshell I can manage: TJ Moe ran fast. Gymnasts are awesome. Baseball won a game vs No. 5 South Carolina. Women’s Soccer had a spring game vs. Iowa. Lawrence Bowers saw some kids in a Nashville Hospital. Coach Pandov is the stretch king. Phil Pressey is pretty quick. Bowers is also tatted up. Mizzou lost to Ole Miss in the SEC Tournament, and last but not least, Marshall Henderson is not very nice.

If you made it this far, thanks for taking some time!

Basketball, Track, and Gymnastics

So it’s been a while since the last time I blogged some photos, so I figured I would just post some of my favorites from the past two weeks! We got a couple from the gymnastics team’s battle with Georgia, a little moment from the Missouri Collegiate Challenge Track Meet, and some features from the Men’s Basketball team’s huge win over Florida. If you’d like to take a look at some of my other work, head over to my portfolio site! Thanks for taking a look!

Missouri Gymnastics vs LSU

Missouri put up a 194.575 score for the second consecutive week against the LSU Tigers on Friday night in the Hearnes Center. LSU scored a 197.275 to win the meet, but several Missouri Tigers matched or set new career high scores at the meet. Freshman Miranda Eubank started off the record breaking with a 9.750 score on the vault. Sophomore Rachel Updike took first on the balance beam with a career high 9.900 score for her routine. It’s awesome how encouraging and positive these girls are to each other. You can tell that anytime someone messes up or doesn’t get the score they wanted, the rest of the team has their back.
Anyways…all in all, it was a really fun meet to shoot and I can’t wait for the next one. Here are a few of my images:

Missouri WBB vs No. 9 Tennessee

With a strong second half push, the Missouri Tigers (15-8, 4-5) defeated No. 9 Tennessee (17-5), 80-63, on Sunday (Feb. 3) afternoon at Mizzou Arena. The game was close through the first 30 minutes, with 11 lead changes before the Tigers ran away for the 17-point victory. The win was the program’s first against a top-10 opponent since Jan. 23, 2010, when the Tigers upset then-No. 10 Baylor. Morgan Eye had 26 points in one of her biggest games of the season. Here are a few of my photos from the epic upset. Check out http://www.benwaltonphotography.com for more…

Missouri MBB vs Auburn

The Missouri Tigers took on Auburn at Mizzou Arena and won 91-77 putting them at 16-5 overall and 5-3 in Southeastern Conference play, while Auburn fell to 8-13 overall and 2-6 in league action. Keion Bell put down 24 points and Earnest Ross added his own 23 points against his former team making 5 of his 6 three point attempts. It’s been a pretty busy weekend for Mizzou Athletics with both basketball teams, gymnastics, and wrestling all having home events. Luckily good friend and former Mizzou Athletics photographer, Joel Kowsky, was in town to help us out. Here are a few images from the game…and if you’d like to take a look at some of my other work, head over to my website.

Beauty And The Beast Wrestling/Gymnastics Meet

Wrestling and Gymnastics. Same place. Same time. Same floor. This was the first time i’ve ever shot the Beauty and the Beast meet here at Mizzou and I have to say…it was quite fun. Chaotic, but fun. With all the events taking place simultaneously I found myself running around trying to find a unique angle that none of the other media had. Whether that was sneaking onto the judges panel or climbing to the upper deck of the Hearnes Center, attempting to find cool angles for this event was a fun challenge. Even though Mizzou lost to Auburn in Gymnastics and OSU in Wrestling, there was a few bright moments for the Tigers. Senior wrestler Todd Porter who was #14 in the country in the 174lb weight class, knocked off OSU’s top-ranked Chris Perry who was 21-0 this season. Porter earned a major decision, 9-1, after dominating Perry throughout the bout. Unfortunately I was shooting from the upper-deck when that was happening and missed his epic celebration. :(

Anyways, here are some of my photos from the night. Hope you enjoy!

Missouri WBB vs Florida

With the game tied at 64 and 1:30 remaining, senior Sydney Crafton scored four straight points as the Tigers (14-8, 3-5) knocked off the Florida Gators (13-9) on Thursday (Jan. 31) night by a 69-64 final. With the score being s0 close the entire game, there was a TON of celebration going on. Big 3-point plays, clutch shots, and key defensive stands got the Tigers pretty excited during this win, so here are some of my favorite jube shots. If you’d like to check out some more of my work, head over to http://www.benwaltonphotography.com … Hope you enjoy!

Missouri MBB vs Vanderbilt

Jabari Brown scored a game-high 21 points to lead the 22nd-ranked Missouri Tigers (15-4 overall, 4-2 in SEC play) to an 81-59 win Saturday over Vanderbilt (8-10, 2-4) at Mizzou Arena. Here are just a few images from the blow out.
